Functional Medicine

Drawing from functional, precision, and naturopathic medicine, this whole-person approach explores how physical health may be influencing mental health. Our providers also specialize in natural and non-medication options, integrating both into a coordinated plan across your care team.

About this service

Precision medicine is the keystone of the Wholeness Method, not an add-on to it.

Functional medicine is an equal part of the Wholeness model.

Our providers assess the body and mind together, recognizing that physical symptoms and underlying imbalances can make mental health more difficult to treat. They use prescription and non-medication options while collaborating with psychiatry, psychotherapy, and brain-based care when appropriate.

Whole Body, Whole Mind

Mental and physical health are deeply connected. We consider your emotional well-being alongside your gut, hormones, immune system, metabolism, nutrient status, sleep, stress, environment, and lived experience.

Addressing Underlying Imbalances

Rather than focusing only on symptoms, we look for patterns and contributing factors that may be affecting your health. The goal is to understand what may be driving or sustaining those imbalances and address them thoughtfully.

Prescription and Non-Medication Options

Treatment may include prescription medications, herbal medicine, targeted nutrients, nutrition recommendations, IV nutrient therapy, and personalized sleep, movement, and lifestyle recommendations.

Proactive and Preventive Care

Care is not limited to responding when symptoms worsen. We emphasize proactive strategies and sustainable lifestyle changes that support mental well-being, strengthen resilience, and promote long-term health.

How a visit works

Functional Medicine

Three people running across a rocky outcrop above a hazy valleyA pool of water beaded on a pale blue surfaceA person arched into a backbend against a sand-colored backdrop

One of our precision-medicine specialists takes a full medical and mental-health history, so patterns pointing to nutritional deficiency can be identified. That is usually followed by advanced testing, and we have many options; which ones we run is unique to each person. The recommendations come from the history and the results read together.

What a plan looks like

Body-mind connections we work with

  • Gut-brain axis

Digestive health as a driver of mood and cognition.

    Hormonal balance

How thyroid and sex-hormone imbalance shows up as mood and behavior.

    Nutritional support

Nutrient status behind mental clarity and emotional resilience.

    Stress management

Techniques to manage stress, plus support for how the body copes.

  • Sleep optimization

Sleep quality as a lever on clarity and emotional stability.

    Methylation & genetic SNPs

Genetic variation that changes how you use nutrients and medication.

    Mitochondrial health

Cellular energy production and its role in fatigue and low mood.

    Histamine levels

Histamine intolerance as an overlooked contributor to anxiety.

Who this may be for

  • Anxiety or depression alongside IBS, digestive discomfort, or other persistent gut concerns
  • Depression, anxiety, or OCD symptoms that change or worsen around the menstrual cycle or other hormonal transitions
  • Depression accompanied by ongoing fatigue, low energy, or brain fog
  • Chronic pain occurring alongside depression, anxiety, or changes in mood
  • Anxiety that coexists with food sensitivities, allergies, or heightened sensitivity to environmental exposures or strong smells
  • Mood symptoms alongside thyroid, hormonal, inflammatory, immune, or metabolic concerns
  • People who experience significant side effects or poor tolerance of psychiatric medication
  • Anyone seeking a deeper medical assessment or wanting to explore prescription and non-medication options

What we don’t do

  • We do not replace your primary care provider or emergency medical care.
  • We do not ask you to stop psychiatric medication simply to “go natural.” Medication changes are made thoughtfully and coordinated with the prescribing provider when appropriate.
  • We do not order testing without a clear clinical purpose. Tests are selected when the results may meaningfully inform your care.
  • Urgent or potentially serious physical symptoms should be evaluated through urgent or emergency care first.

A full 60 minutes: timeline of symptoms, diet, sleep, medication, prior labs.

Step 2

Targeted testing
