Dr. Matthew Brennecke is a Naturopathic Doctor in the state of Colorado. He grew up in the suburbs of Seattle, WA, where up until about the age of 5, his life consisted of primarily three things: baseball, Big Wheel, and grilled cheese. When his baseball and Big Wheel aspirations didn’t pan out, he decided to consider other options, such as breakdancing, but first, he had to do some soul searching in many different parts of the country. Regretfully, rhythm has always evaded his grasp, but he has lived all over the place, including Washington, Virginia, Florida, Louisiana, New York, Arizona, and finally, Colorado, where he found his love of the outdoors. He graduated from Colorado State University with a major in Social Work. He then moved out east to New York City, where he attended Columbia University earning a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work, working primarily with severe and persistent mental illness. After seeing pharmaceutical medication given out like candy, he wondered if there were alternatives and found naturopathic medicine and knew that was the road he wanted to travel.
Dr. Matthew earned a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine & Health Sciences (SCNM) in Tempe, AZ, where he was trained as a primary care physician. He learned that while medicine can treat disease, it’s the doctor who can treat the patient. While Arizona was a great learning experience for him, he longed to return to the Rocky Mountains, where the contour lines are much closer together on a topographic map, to make his permanent home.
While not practicing medicine, Dr. Matthew can usually be found walking around town or in the mountains hiking, camping, and exploring with his two dogs, Jaxson and Georgie. He has a genuine fondness of inappropriate jokes and has also upgraded his now occasional grilled cheese to include both gruyere and smoked gouda.
