Autism Spectrum Disorder from a Whole Perspective
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex condition that affects an individual’s social interaction, communication, and behavior. Autism can be from genetic causes and can also be caused by triggers in the immune system or environment.
Wholeness providers are well-versed in the diagnosis and active treatment of ASD. The watch-and-wait approach is no longer sufficient, and safe and effective treatments are available to support individuals with autism.
“Autism is a spectrum that has many different facets, interventions and the degree of interventions are highly individualized.” ~ Dr. Kylie House, MD.
Treating ASD involves an integrative approach that addresses the entire human, including sleep, eating, gastrointestinal, immune, and other issues. Naturopathic medicine can play a crucial role in treating and supporting individuals with ASD. Evidence shows that autism is a whole-body condition, and treating just the brain is not enough to address its complexities.
We strive to support the mental health of individuals diagnosed with ASD. It is important to keep in mind that there is a lot of overlap between ASD and other neuroatypical diagnoses such as OCD and ADHD. This can cause some diagnostic confusion, and it takes a trained eye to differentiate these diagnoses and develop appropriate recommendations.
Medication comes more into play with comorbid conditions, such as anxiety, OCD, and ADHD. For the vast majority of individuals with autism, well-being depends on designing a life that better suits their needs and getting the proper support they require. Our unique application of EEG and qEEG analysis can also play a crucial role in supporting individuals with ASD.
There are many ways to address living with autism, and if you or your child is exhibiting symptoms, it is crucial to seek out a care team that is skilled in the medical nuances associated with the condition. MAPS (Medical Academy of Pediatric Special Needs) has been training physicians for around a decade now, and several Wholeness providers can help translate this information into actionable plans. The Wholeness team is here to help you and/ or your child manage the unique strengths and challenges that come with ASD in order to live the most whole and functional life possible.
Wholeness supports the mental health of those diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder:
In 2010 we wrote our first paper on EEG utilization in autism diagnosis. Since then, we have continued to learn and find even better ways to support the needs of families influenced by autism.
