Are you struggling to reach out about your mental health?

Finding the strength to ask for help can be a daunting task, and…

that makes this a difficult challenge

especially for men.

If you are grasping for assistance with issues of concern right now, you are not alone.

Fortunately, Dr. Matthew Brennecke ND offers a helping hand and answers questions that might assist you as you gain control of your own mental health.

QUESTION: What are some mental health issues that men are experiencing at this time, especially during the pandemic?

DR. MATTHEW BRENNECKE: We’re seeing a lot of depression and anxiety issues presenting themselves during this long pandemic.

People are staying home to work and because of that, they are socializing far less than beforehand.

We’re social creatures and the inability to have that social aspect in our lives is troublesome.

QUESTION: What advice would you give men who are struggling at this time?

DR. MATTHEW BRENNECKE: Mental health is real for everyone.

Try not to get caught up in the “tough guy” mindset and see that the road to happiness is just about taking the right turn at the right time…and maybe asking for directions when feeling lost.

QUESTION: What are some naturopathic suggestions/ solutions for men that might be beneficial to their mental health? Are there particular herbs/ supplements that might be directly beneficial to men?

DR. MATTHEW BRENNECKE: Studies have shown that some of the best mental health comes in the form of exercise and staying active.

The benefit of fresh air and a little bit of sweat is severely underrated but should not be looked past. Not only does it release endorphins, but it also makes people feel productive and can inspire confidence during their day.

There are men that need more though. Making sure men’s hormones are balanced is also vitally important to men’s mental health.

Oftentimes we see testosterone levels in men drop as they age, which can contribute to mental health issues as well.  If we keep testosterone levels at an appropriate level for the age of the man, we can increase the desire to exercise, confidence levels increase, libido also increases, and muscle mass is easier to maintain.

QUESTION: What services does Wholeness provide that might be helpful for men at this time?

DR. MATTHEW BRENNECKE: Wholeness Center is a wonderful integrative clinic that can provide many different types of therapies for optimal men’s health.

We have both male and female practitioners in naturopathic medicine, psychiatric medicine, and in counseling services to fit the preference of the patient as well.

The best part of Wholeness Center is that the practitioners work together to find the best treatment for each individual, which can include ketamine therapy, food sensitivities and other labs, counseling, and hormone balancing/ replacement.
