Doreen Horan MS, LCP, FAMI, NCC

I began working as a counselor in 2000 and have served adults, children, teens, families, groups, schools, colleges, churches and business who are seeking emotional health, wellness, wholeness and desire to live a more balanced and fulfilling life.

I have provided counseling in a variety of settings including 2 years in a middle & high school, a few years in private practice, and for the majority of my years I have served as the Director of The Counseling Center at Stella Maris where I provided clinical counseling, trained and supervised graduate counseling students, created and directed a therapeutic camp, facilitated therapy groups, led day retreats, speaking engagements and educational workshops.

I help people with a variety of issues: anxiety, co-dependency, communication, depression, divorce, emotional disturbance, family conflict, finding freedom, grief, integrative wellness, life balance, life skills, loss, marriage prep, mindfulness, new beginnings, parenting, relationships issues, self-esteem, spirituality, spiritually integrative psychology, stress management, transformation, and trauma. I specialize in grief work with people of all ages grieving from all forms of loss and in guiding clients through changing conditioned mind patterns. I have a passion for journeying with people who are wrestling with existential questions, who seek to find meaning and purpose in life, and with the abused and traumatized to seek and find healing, peace, trust, self-love and wholeness. We need to nurture all three parts of self – body, mind and spirit. I can help you discover or reconnect with your true spiritual identity and bring more balance to the five facets of self.

I believe in the innate ‘wisdom of the heart’ and guide people through one’s perception of brokenness and/or one’s pain-filled life story of loss, abandonment, or betrayal into and through healing, and back to one’s original state of wellness. When appropriate, I incorporate music, art, mandalas, nature, labyrinths and/or play therapy. My clients and graduate students affirm my true presence, keen insight, humor, wisdom, compassion and creativity. I actively Skype and provides tele-mental health services when needed. With an attitude of gratitude, realizing each day is a gift, we can each live well, be fully alive and choose joy.

I am one of six children raised in Lancaster County, PA. I am blessed to have two amazing young adult children who graduated from CU and reside in Colorado. I raised my son and daughter in Maryland, before moving to Colorado in 2016. I love nature and enjoy sunshine, fresh air, walking my dog, exercise, yoga, skiing, tennis, dance, music, art, silent retreats, traveling and am always ready for a deep, soulful conversation.
